Coupon Code for Samsung HDTVs from TigerDirect

Oh, you have no idea how miserable 2010 has been for me, friends! Respiratory problem since early December — all the way through the holidays — then my car was hit by a drunk driver on New Year’s Eve. I suffered a dislocated index finger when my air bag deployed. The car, despite being drivable, has suffered damage which exceeds its value, so the insurance company will be taking it away. Then I got a ear/nose/throat infection, and had an allergic reaction to my antibiotic, Levaquin, which caused me difficulty in breathing. So now I am on three antibiotics, a steroid for the swelling, and Prilosec to avoid getting ulcers from it all.

But here I am.

One of the first things I’d like to tell you about is am inexpensive computer system which I built for a friend. I’ll be sharing those details with you tomorrow. It’s an Intel Dual Core system with Quad Core capability, a 500 GB SATA hard drive (storage), a DVD burner, 2 GB of RAM (memory) and Windows 7 64-bit for the operating system. All done for less than $450. Check back tomorrow.

For now check out these LCD and LED HDTV offers from Tigerdirect. (I am constantly on the lookout for new audio video equipment. I’ve been playing with my old gear this past weekend.)

Year End Specials at Buy.com

Here are some year end savings that were sent to me by Buy.com.  That’s Buy.com, and not BestBuy.com.  If you aren’t familiar with Buy.com, they are a Aliso Viejo, California based company, and they were rated as one of the Top 50 online shopping experiences in 2007. Got Blu-ray? Save $100 on Philips BDP7200 until tomorrow

Philips BDP7200 Blu-ray Disc Player

Philips BDP7200 Blu-ray Disc Player

Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is a high-definition digital video disc (DVD). Blu-ray offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs offers consumers an unprecedented HD experience.

Not too long ago we saw the beginning and the end of the high definition video disc war. HD-DVD and Blu-ray. Blu-ray was the winner when it was backed by major video distributors, motion picture companies, and manufacturers.  Blu-ray has seen growing support from home consumers for the past year.  One of the reasons many have held out on buying into the new format is the high cost of the Blu-ray players.  Standard DVD players are selling for less than $100, while Blu-ray players are selling for upwards from $260, but here’s a special short term offer from Dell:

Hurry ends tomorrow & ships in time for Christmas: Save $100 off Philips BluRay 2700! Coupon Code: N20JW2GFZMKT0H

Currently, Dell sells the Philips BDP 7200 for $239. (Best Buy is selling this machine for $349.) Use the follwoing coupon code at checkout, N20JW2GFZMKT0H, and you can save an additional $40 on the price. This offer expires tomorrow on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 6 AM Central time.

Technically speaking the Philips BDP720 Blu-ray Disc Player connects to your television via HDMI output, component video output, 5.1 channel audio line-out, composite video output, audio line-out, SPDIF output, SPDIF output (TOSLINK). It plays CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD, CD, DVD+R DL, BD-R, BD-RE, BD-ROM, DVD-R DL. Media Format NTSC. Built-in Dolby Digital Audio Decoders, Output Resolutions are 1080i, 720p, 1080p, 480i, and 480p. It also plays JPEG photo formats, and comes with a remote control. It comes with a 1 year Service & Support warranty, and a limited 1 year warranty for parts and labor.

$40 off, Canon PowerShot SD880 IS (10 MP)

Canon PowerShot SD880 IS

Canon PowerShot SD880 IS

If you’re looking for a digital camera for yourself or as a gift, you might want to check out the Canon PowerShot SD800 IS.  This is a slick, trendy, and compact 10.0 megapixel camera with 4x Optical Zoom. I always recommend an optical zoom over a digital zoom. The optical zoom is handled by the lens, while a digital zoom is calculated by the camera’s processor. There’s also an optical image stabilizer to reduce blurring in low light and on moving objects. The 28mm wide-angle lens can zoom to the equivalent of a 112mm lens on a standard camera.

The back of the SD880 has a large high-quality 3-inch color LCD with an anti-glare and anti-scratch coating. The camera back is essentially all screen.  The camera image review controls take up a minimum of space, and there’s very little in the way of wasted metal and plastic surface.

Face Detection and Self-Timer

If you use a camera’s timer to get yourself in the picture then you’ll love the Face Detection technology of the SD880 and its DIGIC 4 Image Processor. The Face Detection programming, in conjunction with the self timer, detects when another face has entered the scene before taking the picture. This will help alleviate “rushing” to get into the shot before the timer goes off.

The SD880 also has a Print/Share Button for easy direct printing and downloading, plus ID Photo Print and Movie Print with select PIXMA Photo Printers and SELPHY Compact Photo Printers. (See Tuesday’s Digital Photo Printer post).

The camera comes with:

  • Lithium-ion Battery Pack (NB-5L)
  • A Battery Charger CB-2LX
  • A 32 MB SD Memory Card
  • A Wrist Strap
  • A Digital Camera Solution CD
  • A USB Interface Cable
  • and an AV Cable for connecting to a television or other audio-video device

I’d recommend buying a 2 GB (gigabyte) SD Memory card along with this camera.  The included 32 MB card will only hold about 6 images (at the highest setting). A 2 GB card will hold about 450 images.  2 GB SD cards can be purchased these days for around $10 or $20.

Special Offer from Dell and Skylarking:
The Canon PowerShot SD880 IS’s has a MSRP of $299, but Dell is currently selling the camera for $259.
